Google Linux is an advanced search for Linux related topics
Google Groups has all recent Usenet posts all archived for searching and browsing. This is a great resource for getting quick info on nearly any topic.
Yahoo used to be a good place to start, but now focuses more on being a Portal than a search engine - still worth a try though.
